People on Commerce Drive in Fairfield were told to stay inside for awhile on Thursday morning after a local manufacturer released what is described as an eye irritant into the air.
The chemical is gallium trichloride, which can be irritating but is not dangerous.
The part of the street that was affected is near Webster Street, police said.
The scene was clear as of 12:30 p.m.
