Freezing on Friday!

Mother Nature can certainly be cruel and she always gets even. Take, for instance, today.  When most of us woke up, it was in the teens or 20s.

It’s quite a change from November, which was not balmy, but it was getting up to the 50s and 60s by afternoon, and it was above freezing in the morning.

The temperature was warmer than usual for 22 of 30 days, to make it the sixth warmest November on record at Bradley International Airport.

But those days are gone. The cold air that has been all bottled up in Western Canada and the Rocky Mountains for several weeks is paying Connecticut a visit.

There have been two snow-producing storms in five days and the arctic air has invaded on a strong, cold westerly wind. The Jet stream has dug a big trough in the east, allowing for the cold to move in and it looks like it will last through Sunday night.

This cold that descends upon us is nothing out of the ordinary, but that does not make it any easier to deal with.

The punishing winds average around 15 mph but gust to 30 mph. and that, mixed with cold, makes it feel near 0 to our pets and us.

To be prepared, cover yourself up. Our skin can freeze it we leave it unprotected and exposed to the chill for more then 15 or 20 minutes.

If you’re hitting a holiday part tonight, dress warmly because the wind chill will make it feel about minus 5 tonight.

The winds should begin to diminish by morning.

As for the rest of the weekend, there is a chance of snow, which could change quickly to sleet and rain. It does not look like a big deal right now, but that could change!
