Senior Can't Sleep Tight When Bedbugs Bite

Bed bugs discovered in apartments for the elderly

Some seniors in New Haven aren't sleeping too well because of some little buggers are nibbling on their toes and everything else.

About 20 units at a complex for senior citizens have bedbugs, and management told the New Haven Register they will be addressing the problem for a second time.

Bedbugs first surfaced at the complex about a year ago and management treated for them, Tammy Lautz, of Elderly Housing Management, told the Register. Now they have reappeared at the Davenport-Dunbar Residence on Putnam Avenue.

“It’s a terrible situation. I hope they get it resolved,” one anonymous resident told the Register. “Some people are so bitten up and they just don’t know what to do. We had to purchase mattress covers and we were told we had to put plastic over all our clothes in the closets.”

The woman said she knows of another woman who had to leave the property to be treated at a nursing home because she was so badly bitten.
