Judge Accused of Behaving Badly

Judicial review council to pursue misconduct charges against judge

The state's judicial review council will pursue misconduct charges against a judge accused of drunken driving.

Superior Court Judge E. Curtissa Cofield, 60, was arrested in October after, police said, her car hit a state trooper's cruiser in a construction zone on Route 2 in Glastonbury. During the arrest, she made racially-charged statements, police said.

Four charges stem from the disparaging comments she allegedly made to police who arrested her. The fifth addresses the DUI charge.

Cofield was accepted into an alcohol education program, which could wipe the criminal charges from her record. A hearing is set for Feb. 9.
