Judge: Teen Can Be Charged in Pizza Cook's Murder

Police said teens randomly chose a victim.

There is enough evidence to charge a New London teen with murder for the stabbing death of a restaurant work who was walking home in October, a judge has ruled.

Authorities say Idris Elahi, 17, was one of six teens who picked a victim at random. Matthew Chew, 25, was walking home after his shift at 2Wives Brick Oven Pizza when he was stabbed, the Day of New London reports.

In a probable cause hearing that ended on Monday, Judge Patrick Clifford ruled that the state presented enough evidence to prosecute Elahi for murder.

The Day of New London reports that defense attorney Bruce McIntyre said the evidence could prove his client was out that night with other teens, but not that he stabbed Chew.

McIntyre entered a not guilty plea on Elahi's behalf.
