Judge to Unseal Court Documents in New Year's Eve Sex Assault Case

Judge rules girl and the seven boys can use pseudonyms.

A judge has rejected requests to seal the entire file in the case of a teenage girl suing several boys and their parents over an alleged group sexual assault.

New Haven Superior Court Judge Jonathan Silbert ruled on Monday that the girl and the seven boys can use pseudonyms, but he said their interests don't outweigh the public's interest in open courts.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the ruling.

The judge also rejected a request to bar the public from the courtroom.

The girl and her mother are suing the boys and their parents on allegations she was sexually assaulted by five defendants on New Year's Eve 2009 at the home of one of the boys.

The boys were criminally charged in Juvenile Court.
