Judicial Marshal Accused of Taking Bribes

A judicial marshal is accused of soliciting bribes inside New Haven Superior Court to fix motor vehicle tickets.

James Blakeslee, 43, of North Branford, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with bribe receiving, larceny and forgery.

Prosecutors said Blakeslee took money from several defendants then forged the initials of a prosecutor on court documents to make it appear that their cases had been dropped.

Blakeslee has been released on a written promise to appear in court as a defendant on July 19. He has been placed on administrative leave from his part-time job as a marshal.

His attorney, Michael Dolan, told the New Haven Register that he is reviewing the evidence against Blakeslee and intends to put on a "full and vigorous defense."
