A convicted sex offender from Killingly could possibly spend the next 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 8 year-old boy.
James Pendertgast, 47, is set to be sentenced on Monday in New London Superior Court on charges of sexual assault and having illegal sexual contact with a minor.
Officers say Pendergast was already on the state's sex offender registry and on probation for a 2003 conviction involving a child.
Last summer, the boy's parents became suspect and complained to police after Pendergast gave their son gifts and a ride home from Finn Beach in Voluntown.
