Residents Beat the Heat at Rocky Neck State Park

With temperatures climbing past 90 degrees, this Labor Day is hardly the last day of summer, and many people packing the beach at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme could be right back there next weekend.

Although the parking lot did not fill to capacity, the half-mile long beach was crowded.

For fun and games – and some elbow room – beach-goers headed into the water.

"It's really hot. It's good to have some family time over here," said Nilmari Serrano, of Holyoke, Massachusetts.

One group posing for a picture at the water's edge originally came from Cambodia.

"We have a lot of fun here," said Danbury resident Billy Choun. "This is the third time this year that we came to Rocky Neck. Last time we came, it's a little bit more crowded."

The Krzynowek family from New Britain built a sand castle.

"It's been a while since we came to the beach and I figured it would be a good day to bring em out for Labor Day," said Justin Krzynowek.
