Pup Found after 7 Months, Needs New Home

A Middletown dog named Lady would make a perfect Disney movie after escaping from her adoptive home and living on the lam for almost seven months. She’s sort of Lady and the Tramp wrapped all into one.

Just hours after Lady’s new owners adopted her from the Connecticut Humane Society last November, she ran away during a walk. Her leash was still on, the Middletown Press reports.

Then there were Lady spottings.

People saw her on the Wesleyan campus and near Connecticut Valley Hospital, the Press reports. Each time, her pink leash was in tow.

There were times Middletown Animal Control Officer Gail Petras thought the wayward pooch had died.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, Lady decided to give up the street life and wandered into a home on the Higganum line, the Press reports.

Society officials are amazed the hound managed to survive the frigid winter and evade capture many times. Lady managed to get by without frostbite or significant weight loss, Petras said.

Unfortunately, Lady’s owners got another dog. Her condo association only allows one dog, so she cannot keep her, so Lady now needs a home.

Middletown Animal Control is located at 222 Main St. The phone number is 860-344-3298. Middletown Animal Control will host a pet adoption event on June 13.
