Gun Law Hearing Delayed

A Connecticut Boy's Death Could Change Gun Laws

Massachusetts legislators are delaying a hearing that had been planned next week on the death of an 8-year-old Connecticut boy who accidentally shot himself with a sub-machine gun.

Lawmakers want to wait until after an investigation by Hampden County District Attorney William Bennett, an aide for the Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security said.

Christopher Bizilj of Ashford died Oct. 26 when he lost control of a 9 millimeter Micro Uzi and shot himself in the head during a gun show at the Westfield Sportsman's Club. He was with his father, who said he allowed his son to shoot the gun, and a certified instructor.

Bennett said he's investigating whether state law was violated.

Legislators had planned a hearing Monday in Boston on possible changes to firearms law.
