Legal Wrangling Slows Lawsuit Over Newtown School Shooting

Newtown and its schools are putting up a stiff legal fight against a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the parents of two children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Newtown's attorneys sought to subpoena a state marshal for a deposition to determine whether the lawsuit was filed before the two-year statute of limitations expired. The lawyers also have objected to several requests for information by the parents' attorney.

A state judge on Monday rejected a deposition of the marshal and said that a simple court filing showing the date the lawsuit was submitted to the marshal will suffice.

The lawsuit alleges security at the school was inadequate when a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six educators.
