Legislative Forum on Vaccines Planned at Connecticut Capitol

A Connecticut lawmaker who supports eliminating the religious exemption from vaccinations for public school students is holding an informational forum on the science behind vaccines.

Democratic Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden says he's concerned the "pseudo-science" fueling fear among a "vocal minority" about vaccine safety. He's organized a forum Tuesday at the Legislative Office Building with experts, including professors from Yale University.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and president of Children's Health Defense is also scheduled to participate on the panel. Kennedy is a vaccine skeptic and has testified in other states against legislation requiring vaccinations.

Kennedy is scheduled to appear later Tuesday at a separate event organized by two lawmakers concerned about vaccines.

The legislature's Conservative Caucus has announced it opposes eliminating the religious exemption for vaccines.
