Hunter Wounded After Accidentally Firing Rifle in Haddam: DEEP

A 65-year-old Old Saybrook hunter was transported by a Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in Haddam Saturday.

The man accidentally fired his rifle while out hunting by himself in the woods behind 76 Weiss Albert Road in Haddam around 10:30 a.m., according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).

Crews had to rescue the hunter from the wooded area. He was flown to Hartford Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

His name has not been released at this time.

Police reported the incident to DEEP. State police and DEEP Environmental Conservation police also responded.
