Local Students Learn the Art of Performing from Broadway's Mandy Gonzalez

“History is happening” in New Britain as local performance students got the chance to learn from one of the best on Broadway Monday.

In partnership with Central Connecticut State University and the Ana Grace Project, Mandy Gonzalez put on a special workshop today at New Britain High School. Gonzalez is currently starring as Angelica Schuyler in the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton.”

“I’m here to give back, and working with students inspires me,” Gonzalez said.

The students from New Britain High School, CCSU and CREC got the chance to learn from Gonzalez.

“It’s just such an amazing feeling that I got to come here and do that because I don’t get to do that every day,” said student Jerry Hamilton.

“I think it’s awesome,” said student, Catherine Knight-Diaz. “They say they came here from New York at 6:30 this morning on their off day to teach us and hang out with us and I think that’s a really wonderful thing.”

Gonzalez is also known for role in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, “In the Heights,” and starred as Elphaba in “Wicked.”

“There are so many things that training in the arts can do for young people,” she said.
