Lowell, Massachusetts, Man Charged With Fatally Stabbing Roommate

36-year-old Luis Rodriguez was arraigned in Lowell District court

A 36-year-old Lowell man charged with fatally stabbing his roommate is held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder.

Luis Rodriguez was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court. The Lowell Sun reports prosecutor Suzanne Kontz said in court the victim had a "significant number of stab wounds." The victim's name has not been made public and no motive disclosed.

Police said they were called Thursday morning to Hadley Park Apartment Homes and found the victim dead. Police said they found Rodriguez at another address with minor injuries.

A neighbor, Ronald Robinson, tells The Sun that the men are mentally challenged and were placed in the apartment through a housing-assistance program. Neighbors said they were friendly and quiet.

Rodriguez's lawyer asked that jail officials be informed about his client's special condition and his medications.
