Malloy Proposes More Agency Consolidations

The plan makes seven more changes.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is proposing consolidating more state agencies, building upon the mergers and consolidations he recommended last year.

Malloy, a Democrat, is calling for seven more changes, reducing the number of budgeted state agencies from 59 to 52. There were originally 81 separate agencies of varying sizes when Malloy started his consolidations last year.

On Friday, Malloy suggested merging the University of Connecticut Health Center and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner into the University of Connecticut.

He also recommended merging the Department of Construction Services, which is formerly the Department of Public Works, into the Department of Administrative Services.

He also recommended merging the Office of Protection and Advocacy and the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.

Malloy is expected to release details of his latest proposals next month, when he submits legislation for the new session of the General Assembly.

More details are posted on the governor’s office Web site.
