Hamden Man Accused of Attacking, Robbing Teen

An 18-yeaqr-old woman was punched in the head and robbed.

Hamden police have arrested a local man suspected of robbing a woman and attacking her in Hamden last month.

An 18 year-old female was robbed while she was walking on Goodrich Street in the early morning hours on May 6, police said.

Eight men approached her and one of them allegedly demanded her belongings. When she refused, the man grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground, police said.

As she was down, she was punched in the head, over and over again, and suffered a head injury.

Police responded and a large group ran off in different directions.

Hamden detectives took Johnny Lee Grant Jr., 19, of Hamden, into custody on Thursday when they found him walking on Shelton Avenue in New Haven.

Grant was charged with robbery in the second degree, larceny in the second degree and assault in the third degree.

Grant was detained at police headquarters on a $35,000 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on June 28.
