Man Accused of Setting Puppy on Fire

He said the puppy was already dead, officials said

When police got to a Stratford park on Saturday, a 21-Bridgeport man was standing over the burnt body of a puppy, police said.

The puppy was already dead, Donovan Brooks allegedly told authorities, and he set it on dog on fire because it  and he did not know what else to do with it.

Brooks is accused of carrying the puppy to Clover Field in a suitcase, the Connecticut Post reports, and allegedly acknowledged setting the body on fire.

He’s also brought three other dogs to the park as well. They were chained to poles nearby, authorities said.

Brooks is charged with cruelty to animals, reckless burning and other crimes. He posted $1,000 bail and will be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Dec. 17.

There is no phone listing for Brooks and it's not clear if he has an attorney, the Associated Press reports.
