Police have arrested a 24-year-old Newtown man accused of breaking into a home on Orchard Hill Road, stealing items and holding them for ransom last Friday.
Joshua G. Adams, of Newtown, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree larceny by extortion, interfering with an officer, second-degree burglary, third-degree larceny from a building and third-degree burglary.
Police said he burglarized a house on Orchard Hill Road on Friday, Aug. 14, then sent text messages to the owner of the stolen items, offering them for ransom.
Authorities identified Adams as the suspect and confronted him Saturday, Aug. 15. Police said Adams ran into the woods when police approached him and was later found on Pebble Road, where he was arrested.
He was held on bond and appeared in court Monday. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
