Man Charged in Fatal Police Chase Crash in Brookfield

A 25-year-old Waterbury man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal crash in Brookfield during a high-speed police chase.

State police arrested Eric Sciarretta on Monday after he sped away on Sunday evening from a routine police seat belt check at an on-ramp to Interstate 84 in Danbury, police said.

Authorities said he crashed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee after exiting Route 7 in Brookfield.

The crash killed the driver and seriously injured a passenger in the Jeep. The driver's name hasn't been released.

He was also charged with reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Sciarretta is being held on $300,000 bail after being arraigned on Monday in Danbury Superior Court, according to court records.

It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
