Man Collapses at Police Station, Dies

A 38-year-old man who was busted for crack cocaine possession collapsed and died while New London police were booking him Wednesday.

New London Police pulled over the car Emmanuel Diggs was in and arrested him for possessing crack cocaine.  He started fighting with officers and police used pepper spray on him, police said.
While Diggs was in the booking area, he started gasping for breath and collapsed.

Paramedics performed CPR and he was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Diggs’ address was listed at a hospitality center in New London for homeless people.

An autopsy did not determine what killed Diggs. A spokesman at the medical examiner's office said the results will not be known for seven to 12 weeks.

Connecticut state police are investigating.

Video cameras recorded the incident, police said.
