West Hartford Man Stabbed to Death in Hartford on New Year's Morning

A 20-year-old West Hartford man was stabbed and killed in Hartford just after midnight on New Year’s Day.

Police have identified the victim as Jonathan Douglin, 20, of West Hartford.

Officers found him when they responded to the Eight Sixty Skate Shop, an indoor skate park, at 41 Francis Ave. at 12:09 a.m. to investigate reports of a stabbing, according to information police released to the media.

Flowers and candles now cover the area where Douglin was killed.

Police said he had been stabbed in the abdomen and chest and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m.

People who knew Douglin said he was a good man.

“He was real peaceful, humble not a mean person,” Chris Franco said. “He was really cool. He was a nice dude. He always talked positive, was never negative. I know he’s going to be missed.”

The Major Crimes Division and the Crime Scene Division are investigating.

This is the first homicide in the city in 2016. In 2015, there were 31 homicides in Hartford.
