A 49-year-old New Milford man died during the intense storm on Tuesday night and police believe he was electrocuted.
Live electrical wires fell on Kevin Mateer's car as he was traveling east on Van Car Road just after 7 p.m., police said, and the car caught fire.
Mateer was electrocuted as he got out of the burning car, according to police.
He was transported to New Milford Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The New Milford Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating.
