One person is dead after a mini-van caught fire behind an apartment building in New Haven.
According to police, the van caught fire shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Lexington Avenue.
Police said Jerrod Vasquez, 33, died in the fire after neighbors had tried to save him, but were overcome by the intense heat from the flames.
According to police, preliminary reports indicate the fire started in the engine compartment and spread quickly.
The State Fire Marshal's Office and investigators from the New Haven Fire Department's Arson Unit are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
