Man Harassed Tax Office Workers, Threatened to Shoot Cop: Police

Wethersfield police have arrested a man who they said harassed staff members in the tax office and prompted school lockdowns when he threatened to shoot a police officer.

Officers responded to Wethersfield Town Hall at 8:32 a.m. on Monday to investigate a report of a person making several harassing telephones calls to the tax department.

Police, as well as town hall employees, are aware of who the man suspected is, so police went to his house to speak with him and ask him to stop calling the tax office, but when officers arrived at his house, Dante Deloreto, 52, of Wethersfield, threatened to shoot an officer at the scene, police said.

As a precaution, two nearby schools were placed in lockdown until Deloreto surrendered to police at the scene a short time later.

Police said they did not find any weapons and nobody was hurt.

Deloreto was charged with threatening in the first degree, released on a $1,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 13.
