Man Linked to Double Fatal Waterbury Crash Accused of Murder

The man linked to the homicide investigation into a double fatal car crash in Waterbury last November has been arrested.

Twenty-year-old Shan Thompson was taken into custody on Friday and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

On Nov. 22, 2017, a Volvo sedan hit a utility pole, knocking out power, before crashing into the home, police said.

The vehicle's occupants, identified as 22-year-old Clarence Lewis and 20-year-old Antonio Santos, were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said Lewis had a gunshot wound to his lower body and Santos likely died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police think Lewis and Santos were involved in a dispute at a nearby shopping plaza before the crash. It is unclear which of the two men was driving.

One handgun was found inside the car, according to police.

Police said this is an active and ongoing gang-related investigation.
