Man Points Gun at Boy, Steals Bike, Shoplifts from Store: Police

Hamden police are trying to identify the man who pointed a gun in a 9-year-old boy’s face, then stole his bicycle. Authorities also believe he’s the same man who shoplifted at the Dollar General and threatened to shoot employees.

Police officers responded to the Dollar General, at 1926 State St. around 5 p.m. on Friday to investigate a shoplifting and learned that a man had pointed a gun in the face of a 9-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle on Ridge Road and stole the bike.

Police said the bike was found outside the Dollar General and they believe the bike thief is the same person who tried to leave the store with items hidden, told the employees he had a gun and threatened to shoot them.

As the shoplifter tried to leave the store, an employee shut the power to the sliding glass door, but the shoplifter used a metal shelf to break the door.

The man appeared to be in his 40s and he was wearing a baseball hat, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Brian Stewart of the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at (203) 230-4040.
