Man Rescued From Giant Frog: Cops

Man was laughing when crews brought him down, according to reports.

Police say a Willimantic man had to be rescued while clinging to a 30-foot high frog sculpture on an iconic bridge.

It was quite the operation on Friday to get Christopher Gallo, 25, back on solid ground at Thread City Crossing, the Hartford Courant reports.

Just after 1 a.m., Willimantic police responded to a complaint about someone sitting on one of the four sculptures on either side of the "Frog Bridge" and officers had to shut down the bridge for about 30 minutes while firefighters used a ladder truck to get him down, police told the Norwich Bulletin.

The Bulletin reports that Gallo was intoxicated.

Video of the rescue is posted on YouTube. It's dark, but shows what happened.

When police nabbed Gallo, he couldn’t stop laughing and told them the whole stunt was a joke, the Courant reports.

Gallo was charged with breach of peace and is expected to appear in Superior Court in Danielson on July 18.
