Medical Emergency in Pool Leads to Death

A swimmer was rushed to a local hospital in West Hartford after he was pulled from an indoor pool Friday night, according to police.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m., at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center located at 55 Buena Vista Road.

Police said a 59-year-old man was swimming when he went under the lane rope and did not come back up.

Two people were swimming laps in the pool at the time. A lifeguard and pool staff removed the unconscious victim and began CPR, said officials.

The man was taken to UConn Health Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's name has not been released.
