Man Says He Was Attacked By Person Looking for Change

A 57-year-old New Haven man told police he stabbed in the shoulder Saturday afternoon and police are investigating.

Police met with the victim at Yale-New Haven Hospital just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday and the victim, who was highly intoxicated, told police he was walking on Rosette Street when a man approached him and asked for spare change.

When the victim didn’t give him any, the other man started arguing with him and stabbed him in the shoulder, according to a news release.

The victim told police he drank two bottles of Brandy that afternoon and remained in the hospital after he was treated while he sobered up.

Detectives were not able to found the crime scene or any witness to the alleged assault.

The alleged assailant was described as being in his mid-30s, with a medium build. He is around 5-feet-10, has a scruffy beard, short hair and he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and left in a maroon Jeep Cherokee.
