Police are investigating a homicide in West Haven Monday morning.

A 36-year-old man was driving his vehicle in the rear lot of an apartment building at 215 Jaffrey Street around 1 a.m. when he was shot, according to police.

The car continued and slammed into the apartment, causing extensive damage to the apartment, police said.

The victim, identified by police as 36-year-old Jason Roman, of Naugatuck, was found a short distance from the crash and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no reason to believe the public is in danger.
