Man Smoking Pot While Driving Had Gun: Police

Shortly after school let out on Wednesday, Hartford police arrested a man who they said was smoking marijuana while driving and carrying a gun and ammunition.

Members of the Hartford police Central Conditions Unit noticed a 2014 Toyota traveling south on Woodland Street with a lot of marijuana smoke coming out of the windows at 4:05 p.m., so they stopped it, police said.

The driver, identified as Christopher Hernandez, 35, of Hartford, admitted to smoking marijuana while driving through city streets, police said.

Officers at the scene also found a Glock model 19 9mm pistol, along with two high-capacity magazines, which each held 15 live rounds.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with illegal tints, weapons in a motor vehicle, pistol without a permit, two counts of possession of a high-capacity magazine and carrying a firearm under the influence of drugs.

It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
