Man Tried to Rob Doughnut Shop With Drill: Cops

Bristol police have arrested a 49-year-old local man accused of trying to rob the Whole Donut with a power drill on Sunday night.

Several police officers responded to The Whole Donut, at 2 Burlington Ave., at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, within a minute after an attempted robbery was reported, police said.

Police did not have to go far to find someone matching the description of the robber.

A K9 tracked Robert Moody, 49, of 9 Irving Street in Bristol, down near the restaurant, police said.

He had a mask, latex gloves, a spare shirt in a bag and a power drill that was used to resemble a gun, police said.

Moody also made comments implicating himself in the attempted robbery, according to police.

He was arrested and charged with criminal attempt at robbery in the first degree, criminal attempt at larceny in the sixth degree and breach of peace in the second degree.

No one was injured during the attempted robbery and Moody didn’t get into the restaurant.

He was held on a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned at Superior Court in Bristol.

Moody was also charged with failure to appear in the second degree via an arrest warrant for an earlier incident unrelated to the attempted robbery.
