Man Tries Stealing $2,700 Worth of Furniture in Milford: Police

A man attempted using a false name and credit card to purchase thousands of dollars worth of furniture from a store in Milford, police said.

On July 1, Milford Police said Terry Lyles, 42, placed a $2,700 online order for furniture from the Raymour and Flanigan on Boston Post Road.

Employees became suspicious of the order when the customer requested to pick up the pieces on the same day, police said.

When the suspect, of Florence, South Carolina, came to the store, employees tried to stall him as they called police. Lyles left the store without the furniture and before police showed up, but was eventually stopped following a brief pursuit ending just over the Milford-Orange town line, according to police.

Police said the false identification card and credit card were in Lyles' possession during the stop.

Lyles is accused of third-degree identity theft, first-degree forgery, third-degree forgery, third-degree attempt larceny, criminal impersonation, failure to obey officers signal and engaging police in a pursuit

His bail was set at $25,000 and he is expected to appear in court on Aug. 2.
