Man Was High While Hunting: Cops

State environmental police said they found Raymond Lass smoking marijuana while hunting Wednesday.

State Environmental Police have charged a Bristol man with hunting while under the influence of drugs.

EnCon police officers from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection found a vehicle belonging to Raymond Lass, 22, Wednesday along Kuhne Road near the Aldo Leopold Wildlife Management Area in Southbury.

The officers searched the area and found Lass hunting from a popup blind in the wildlife management area, which is state land. They smelled what they believed to be marijuana, and found pot inside the blind, according to the DEEP..

Lass failed a field sobriety test, DEEP officials said.

Wednesday began the state's turkey hunting season, and Lass did have the proper permits to hunt.

He was arrested and charged with hunting while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possession of marijuana. Lass was released a a promise to appear in court on May 9.
