Suspected Thief Who Stole Pills, Cough Syrup Arrested Near School: Hamden Police

A Hamden man broke into a pharmacy on Dixwell Avenue in town and stole medicine and supplies on Tuesday, police said.

Joseph Magoveny-Morbidelli, 27, of Hamden, is facing multiple charges including burglary and narcotics possession within 1,500 of a school.

Officers responded to Apex Pharmacy at 2380 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden at 2 a.m. on Tuesday to respond to a security alarm that went off.

The front sliding glass door was smashed when police arrived, police said. Officers discovered that medicine and cough syrup were stolen from a cabinet and that medical supplies were also missing.

An officer spotted Magoveny-Morbidelli walking near Shephard Glen School on Skiff Street Extension and stopped him, discovering he had "a large quantity of pills, cough syrup and medical supplies" on him, police said.

Police arrested him on charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, possession of narcotics and illegal possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school.

Magoveny-Morbidelli was held in police custody on a $50,000 bond and is due in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
