Man on Bike Struck and Killed by Amtrak Train

Windsor Locks police and Amtrak officials are investigating the death of a 44-year-old man after he was struck and killed by a train while riding his bicycle off Route 140.

The train carrying 35 passengers heading from New Haven to Springfield struck David Balaz of Windsor Locks around 11:45 a.m. Saturday morning.  

There were no reported injuries on the train and all passengers were bussed to Springfield officials said.

According to Amtrak officials several eyewitnesses told police that the gate and bells at the crossing were fully functional at the time of the accident.

The incident remains under investigation.
