Marching Band from Trumbull Performing in Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Some Connecticut high school students will be performing on a huge stage Thursday as families across the state prepare their Thanksgiving meals.

The Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band is one of the marching bands that will be performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade

There was a sendoff for the band last night at the Westfield Trumbull Mall as the band held a parade through the mall and performed in front of Macy’s.

Each year, more than three and a half million people watch the parade in New York City and more than 50 million watch from home, according to Macy’s.

The history of the parade extends back to 1924 when a group of Macy’s employees, many of whom were first-generation immigrants, asked the company to put on a parade to celebrate their newfound freedoms, the coming of Christmas and to show pride in the country they now called home, according to Macy’s.

You can watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade right here on NBC Connecticut, starting at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.
