Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department Elects New Chief

The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department elected a new chief Sunday after an embezzlement scandal rocked the department last week.

Members selected Anthony Bruno to lead the department after the previous chief, Paul Perrotti, was arrested on federal charges Thursday. Perrotti is accused of embezzling $70,000 from the department. He has plead not guilty.

Bruno has been acting chief since Perrotti’s arrest and said tonight’s election represents a major change in the department.

“We’re just hoping the community out here sees that and realizes that we are true to this town and we’re going to do the best we can to get their support back,” he said.
