Mall Limits Busloads to Quell Violence

The Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford is putting a cap on the number of public buses that stop at the mall to keep the "riff raff" out.

Last weekend, there were fights and assaults on police officers, the New Haven Register reports. That’s also when the one bus per hour schedule began. So far, it seems it hasn’t worked.

The “problem hours” are between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, mall officials told the newspaper. So, during that time, buses continue to run, but the drop-offs are on the Boston Post Road nearby, rather than on mall property, Connecticut Transit general manager, David Lee told the Register.

He said they had short notice about changing the schedule but spread the word as well as they could.

Still, bus riders were confused and one said he missed the last bus home, so a neighbor picked him up.

“We’ve got a regular schedule, and we intend to run it as scheduled, and the only change is where the buses stop,” Lee told the Register. “They (the mall) are private property, and we are only there with their permission.”
