Money Is Missing from Youth Baseball League

The baseball program gives city children something to do in the summer.

Thousands of dollars of Roberto Clemente Baseball League funds are missing and the Hartford police are investigating.

Efrain Bracero, president of the league, told the Hartford Courant that more than $30,000 was missing when he took over the youth league in February. No arrests have been made.

It costs about $40,000 a year to operate league that gives about 400 city children something to do with their time during the summer.

The league has been able to raise enough money to field teams this season. Donors also stepped forward to replace equipment that was auctioned off after nobody paid the storage fee at the league's rental locker.

A softball tournament is being held next weekend to help raise money for the league.
