Plans to build the state's first Mormon temple are moving forward.
After a long debate on Tuesday night, the Farmington planning and zoning commission has approved the 35,000 building.
The temple will be built on 11 acres near the corner of Farmington Avenue and Melrose Drive.
During a meeting in May, neighbors complained about the impact on traffic.
"I'm against any development in this area because it will contribute to the already congested corridor on Route 4," one women said during the public comment period of a meeting in May.
Despite its size of 35,000 square feet and location on busy Farmington Avenue, the developers tried to calm fears that traffic would be a big problem and said the temple would likely hold service several days during the week.
Members of the Mormon Church have said they're pleased they will no longer have to drive long distances.

"Right now, we travel to Boston or Manhattan so to have our family go to something around the corner will be wonderful for us," Randy Bliss said.
The May meeting was continued to Tuesday. The proposal now goes to the town council.
