Muffler Issue Leads to Drug Charges

Old Saybrook police stopped a vehicle around 1 a.m. because of the equipment violation and said they smelled marijuana.

A muffler problem led to drug charges for two Branford men on Tuesday morning.

Old Saybrook police stopped a vehicle around 1 a.m. because of the equipment violation, smelled marijuana and arrested the two men inside.

Police said Joshua Swimmer, 22, and Andrew Joyce, 21, admitted to a small amount of marijuana, but police found more than a pound of marijuana in the car, as well as a scale, a grinder, more than $1,100 in cash and two cylinders of nitrous oxide gas.

Swimmer was released on a $25,000 bond and is due in court on March 20. He was charged with possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with Intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joyce was held on a $25,000 bond and will appear in Middletown Superior Court on Tuesday.

He was charged with possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts possession of a controlled substance, aiding and abetting the possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana and aiding and abetting the possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
