Jury selection is underway more than a decade after a Connecticut woman and University of Colorado student was raped and killed.
DNA taken while Diego Olmos Alcalde was serving a Wyoming sentence for kidnapping linked him to the 1997 beating death of Susannah Chase.
Chase, a 23-year-old student from Stamford, was walking home from the mall when she was hit over her head with a baseball bat, raped and dumped in an alley a block from her Boulder home on Dec. 21, 1997. A baseball bat was found nearby.
Police were unable to name any suspects in the case for more than a decade. They arrested Alcalde in January 2008 after the DNA matched.
Alcalde's trial is expected to last about four weeks.
