Firefighters Battle 2 Fires in Bloomfield

Firefighters responded to two structure fires in Bloomfield on Tuesday morning.

One fire is on Brae Burnie Lane and the other is on Banfield Lane.

Flames broke out in the basement of the home at 29 Banfield Lane around 9:45 a.m., according to fire officials.

Two people were home at the time, but were able to escape.

"I got up and went into the laundry room and saw smoke and I went upstairs and told my sister," said Gene Harrison.

The pair called the fire chief, who lives next door to the family, Harrison said.

Arriving firefighters found fire in the basement ceiling and said it appeared to be electrical, according to fire officials.

Around the same time, firefighters received a call for the fire on Brae Burnie Lane.

Mutual aid was requested from several towns because of the two fires.

No one was injured at the Brae Burnie Lane fire, but no other information was immediately available from that scene.
