National Guard Helps Tolland Clear School Roofs

Schools in some districts are closed on Friday to allow crews to clear roofs of snow and ice after a multitude of collapses across the state.

Tolland schools are getting help from the National Guard on Friday.

The National Guard cleared school roofs in Vernon on Thursday.

Across the state, schools are seeing signs of stress from all the snow and ice weighing down the tops of their buildings.

South Windsor High School found cracks in the ceiling of the cafeteria.

"There has probably been some deviation or shifting of the steel that would cause the plaster or sheetrock to crack. Again, it's a safe situation its purely precautionary," Daniel Sullivan, principal of South Windsor High School, said.

Damaged ceiling tiles down the road at Wapping Elementary School in South Windsor kept student out of school for yet another day.
