Naugatuck School Locked Down After Street Robbery

The Naugatuck Western School was placed on a precautionary lockdown this morning following a nearby street robbery, according to police.

Police said the robbery happened around 11:30 a.m. outside a Mobil Station on Rubber Avenue. The suspect grabbed a man’s wallet and fled in the direction of the school, police said.

The suspect used force to take the wallet but didn’t display a weapon, according to police.

Police said the suspect fled toward the Western School off of Pine Street, which was placed on a precautionary lockdown while investigators searched the area.

The school was locked down for about 45 minutes, according to police.

Nearby Naugatuck High School was not locked down because school had already been dismissed on a half-day schedule, police said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police said they are still working to identify a suspect and are following leads.
