Double Shooting in New Haven Injures 2

New Haven police are responding to a double shooting that left one victim in critical condition and the other with minor injuries.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. when Sterling Dacosta, 25, and Daryl Mays, 28, were both shot in the thigh at the corner of Dixwell Avenue and Bassett Street in New Haven, according to police.

Police said the victims were in the area of a bus stop when a gunman confronted them. The victims apparently ran a block to their car and drove together to St. Raphael's hospital. Dacosta was more seriously injured and was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, police said.

Police said a car driving down Dixwell Avenue ended up with a shattered window. The woman driving was not hurt.

Police are at the scene investigating the incident.
