New Haven Home Invasion Victim Injured in Fall

Man falls three stories while hiding from suspects

A New Haven man is recovering from a broken wrist after falling from a third-floor window during a home invasion, according to police.

The ordeal started around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said three people were home inside a third-floor apartment on Edgewood Avenue when the home invasion happened.

Two opened the door to leave when three men with handguns confronted them, police said, so a female resident ran to hide in a bathroom. A male resident ran to a bedroom, climbed out a window and held onto the ledge in an attempt to hide from the gunmen.

During that time, the three intruders found the other resident on a sofa and ordered him to lie down, police said.

The intruders left the house after they demanded money, but did not get any.

After hearing the men leave, a female resident left the bathroom, ran to a second floor balcony and saw the intruders drive off in a gray SUV, police said.

In that time, the male resident who was hanging out the window lost his grip and fell three stories to the ground, breaking his wrist.  He was able to run to a neighbor's yard, where someone called police.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the New Haven Police Department's Investigative Services Division.
